How many sandbags do I need for a flood wall?

A quick way to estimate bags for a door, garage, or full wall — plus how many pallets to order.

Count the length of the wall in feet, then multiply: one row of our 18 kg bags covers about 1 foot per bag. A 10-foot wall needs roughly 10 bags per row.

For water up to 1 foot high, plan 3 rows (a pyramid: 2 on the bottom, 1 on top). That is about 25–30 bags for 10 feet. Our bags are 18 kg each, so 30 bags weigh over half a tonne — bring a truck or trailer.

The fast math

Door (3 ft wide, 1 ft high): about 10 bags. Garage (8 ft wide, 1 ft high): about 25 bags. House wall (20 ft, 2 ft high): about 100–120 bags, which is 2 pallets of 55.

When in doubt, order 10–20% extra. A half-built wall holds no water, and emergency top-ups cost more time than bags.
